Petition to continue the Noel-Baker Community School and Language College re-build project.

You are probably aware from the press and media coverage over the last week that the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme has been decimated across the country.   In Derby the programme has been cut, except for the two sample builds which are in discussion.   The two sample projects are Noel-Baker /St Martins and Derby Moor.   We are currently waiting for central government to contact us to pass on the details of this discussion exercise.   We are currently unclear about the criteria or timescale for this process.

Noel-Baker Community School and Language College was built in 1960 and is due to celebrate its 50^th anniversary this year.   Over the years it has served the local community of Alvaston and Allenton extremely well and is now beginning to show its age.   The school has been improved and developed over the last 20 years, but now the split site layout cannot effectively deliver learning for young people.   The buildings are showing serious sign of wear and tear and their 1960s style of layout is not conducive to modern learning.   Much of the language supporting the BSF programme related to transforming learning and revolutionising opportunities.  

Roofs are leaking, windows and doors are ineffective and the fabric of the building is struggling.   We have to spend considerable amounts of money to keep elements of the site stable and safe, rather than improve the opportunities for our students.

The governors will contact and petition on behalf of the school to push for the programme to go ahead, however we also need support from parents, pupils and our local community.   Please go to the link below to register your support for Noel-Baker becoming something our students, staff, and entire local community can continue to feel proud of.
